Connecticut Sun vs. Phoenix Mercury
June 3, 2022 10:00 pm EDT

The Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun face off on Friday in a WNBA showdown at the Footprint Center. When these two teams faced off on May 29th it was the Dream that secured the 81-54 victory.

The Mercury comes into this game with a 2-7 record overall, and they have lost six games in a row. In the last game against the Chicago Sky, the Aces were competitive, but they lost by three points. The Mercury were outscored 22-11 in the 4th quarter and that led to the defeat. The Mercury are averaging 78.9 points, while their defense is giving up 86.7 points per game. The offense is ranked 9th in the league, while their defense is ranked 10th. The Mercury like to play a fast pace and are 4th in the league in terms of pace. One big issue with this team is they are still without Brittney Griner. Skylar Diggins-Smith has been the top player, averaging 16.4 points while shooting 43 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Connecticut Sun, who will be playing in back-to-back nights. On Thursday, the Sun faced off with the Las Vegas Aces. Heading into Thursday’s game, the Sun sits with a 6-3 record overall. On Tuesday, the Aces scored 89 points against their defense and that led to the eight-point victory. The Sun are averaging 85.6 points, while their defense is giving up 74.9 points per game. Alyssa Thomas has been the top player for the Sun, averaging 15.8 points while shooting 53.3 percent from the field.

The Sun are going to have tired legs, but they are still the much better team in this game. The Mercury are giving up 86.7 points and their defense is going to really struggle against Connecticut. The Sun are going to run up the score and that will be the difference as Connecticut gets the job done. Back Connecticut against the spread.
