Furman transfer Trey Hedden should get the nod at quarterback after throwing for nearly 5,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. Delaware State transfer James Jones had nearly 1,000 rushing yards and brings some explosiveness to the ground game. Wide receiver TK King returns after nearly 600 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns despite an injury that shortened his season, and Brodie Malone-Bradford had 22 receptions last season. There’s potential with this New Mexico State offense if the quarterback can hit the ground running.
Defensively, Tory Gethers returns after 89 tackles last season, Sone Aupiu had 1 sack, and Bernock Iya had 4 interceptions. Florida State has won a combined 7 games in the last two seasons and enters year 7 under coach Mike Norvell. This feels like a make-or-break season for the Noles as there have been some disappointing times.
The bad news for Florida State’s offense is Ashton Daniels will be a new starting quarterback for a third straight season, and the entire offensive line is being replaced. Daniels is a Stanford and Auburn transfer who has 4,783 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. The good news is Duce Robinson and Micah Danzy could be an elite receiving duo while Texas transfer Quintrevion Wisner joins Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton Jr. to form a scary backfield. Offensively, FSU has top-level playmakers and could be fun to watch if the offensive line comes together.
Defensively, Ashlynd Barker returns after 48 tackles, Mandrell Desir led FSU with 6.5 sacks, and Ja’Bril Rawls had 1 interception. Florida State added Southern Miss transfer Chris Jones, who had 133 tackles last season, and UNC transfer Mikai Gbayor, who played under Tony White at Nebraska. FSU also landed two quality defensive recruits in Izayia Williams and Earnest Rankins who should see minutes right away.
