NY Yankees vs Houston Astros Prediction 5-7-24 Picks

The Houston Astros and the New York Yankees meet Tuesday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. Here’s a NY Yankees vs Houston Astros Prediction. This will be the first installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the game.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Astros are coming off a weekend series versus the Seattle Mariners. Houston managed a 5-3 win in the Friday opener, but lost the other two games 5-0 and 5-4 to drop the set. In Sunday’s one-run defeat, Houston got two RBI and a homer fro both Kyle Tucker and Jon Singleton. Starter Hunter Brown left after 4.1 innings and two earned runs.

In the starting pitcher role for the Astros on Tuesday it’ll be Justin Verlander. Over his three starts this year Verlander is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 13 Ks in 17.1 innings. Verlander has a 258-141 career record with a 3.23 ERA in 512 starts total.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Over on the Yankees’ side, they played well against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend. New York managed a three-game sweep in that matchup with wins 2-1, 5-3 and 5-2. It was a nice bounce-back after dropping three of four to the Baltimore Orioles last week. In Sunday’s win, the Yankees got a solo homer and two hits from Aaron Judge.

It’ll be Luis Gil in the starting pitcher role for the Yankees on Tuesday. This year Gil has gone 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA in six starts. He’s got 40 Ks in 31.0 innings. Gil has a career record of 3-2 with a  3.50 ERA in 13 starts.

Astros SP Luis Garcia (elbow) completed a bullpen session on Friday. RP Penn Murfee (elbow) was cleared recently to begin throwing off the slope of a mound.

NY Yankees vs Houston Astros Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Yankees. Gil had a bad start on April 25 versus the Milwaukee Brewers, giving up five earned on seven hits and two walks in 5.0 innings. In the other pair of his last three starts however, Gil has a combined zero earned runs in 12.0 innings with four hits and four walks. As for Verlander, he’s got just four earned over his last three starts in 17.1 innings total. We should have a pretty fun starter matchup if both guys are on point.

New York also needs to keep the bats going. The Yankees had five straight games with two or fewer runs scored last week (a 2-3 run), but managed 10 combined in the two weekend matchups. It’s going to be tough to get many chances off Verlander though, so New York will have to be patient with the bats.
