Philadelphia Phillies vs Chicago Cubs Prediction 9-25-24 MLB Picks

The Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. Here’s a Philadelphia Phillies vs Chicago Cubs prediction. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Phillies vs Cubs pick.

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Cubs took on the Washington Nationals in their last set. Chicago won three of those four games, falling only Saturday 5-1. After a 6-2 loss to Philly in their opener, in the Tuesday matchup, the Cubs powered out a 10-4 win to even it up. Justin Steele managed 4.0 innings in the start with two earned runs.

Javier Assad will start the finale for the Cubs. This year Assad is 7-5 with a 3.34 ERA in 28 starts. Over 69 career games (46 starts) Assad is 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

Over on the Philadelphia side, they took on the New York Mets over the weekend. Philly was only able to notch one win out of four, a 12-2 affair on Friday. In Tuesday’s game, the Phillies would cough up six runs in the second inning alone. Starter Tanner Banks left after 1.1 innings and three earned runs.

It’ll be Christopher Sanchez in the start for the Phillies on Wednesday. This year Sanchez is 11-9 with a 3.25 ERA in 30 starts. Over 71 career games (52 starts) Sanchez is 17-16 with a 3.67 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Chicago Cubs Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Phillies. Sanchez has been pitching well over his last three starts. In that trio, he’s 1-0 with three earned in 18.0 combined innings. As for Assad, he’s 0-1 in his last three with 16.2 innings and eight earned runs combined.

On Tuesday the Phillies were cooked after the six-run second, then gave up four more in the sixth inning. It was a pretty rough pitching outing across the board, and the offense was pretty quiet outside of a couple home runs. That said, if Sanchez can notch a quality start Wednesday Philly should be set up well.
