The Line: Boston Celtics -2 -- Over/Under: 203.5 See the Latest Odds
The Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics will play Sunday afternoon at the TD Garden. This is the third of four scheduled meetings this season, and the Pistons have won the first two.
The Pistons continue their downward spiral, as they’ve lost six of their last seven games. Their defense continues to let them down in a big way, as they’re allowing teams to score 108.4 points on 48.1 percent shooting in their last five games. In fact, they’ve allowed nine 100-point performances in their last 10 contests. Offensively, they’re shooting 44.5 percent from the field in their last five games, but just 29.2 percent from beyond the arc. On the road, the Pistons average 100.6 points and allow 104.4 points. They are 27-34-1 ATS overall and 13-14-1 ATS on the road.
The Celtics are coming off of a big home victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. In the win, they held the Nets to 36.3 percent shooting and still managed to score 91 points despite turning the ball over 25 times. They’ve been playing hard basketball lately, but are still just averaging 97.8 points on 43.8 percent shooting in their last five games. Defensively, they’re allowing 101.6 points on 47.7 percent shooting. At home, they average 95.8 points and allow 97.2 points. They are 30-31-1 ATS overall and 14-17-1 ATS at home.
This is a tricky spread considering the Celtics haven’t won back-to-back games in over a month. However, they are showing a lot more heart than the Pistons and actually do a little thing called play defense. The Pistons are the definition of an underachieving team and has appeared to have packed it in for the season.
The Celtics are 6-0 ATS in their last six games against the Eastern Conference, and the home team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these two teams.
I’ll eat the minor chalk.
