On Tuesday night the New York Knicks will visit the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre.
“Lin-sanity” is taking the sports world by storm, and for due reason. Jeremy Lin has brought life back to the otherwise left for dead Knicks, leading New York to five straight wins, their longest winning streak of the season. Lin has seemingly come from nowhere and taken the reigns for the Knicks at the point guard position, an area they were clearly lacking production in. In the month of February alone, Lin is averaging 22.7 points per game and 6.8 assists per game. As if the numbers alone weren’t impressive enough, Lin has done it against some formidable competition. The Knicks current five game winning streak includes wins over the Nets, Lakers, Jazz, Wizards, and Timberwolves. With Carmelo Anthony below full strength, the Knicks have desperately needed production from the perimeter, especially since rookie Iman Shumpert has not handled the point guard role particularly well. If Lin can continue his torrid run, the Knicks not only have a bonafied guard, but a complement to their team as a whole.
The Raptors seem to have the same personality every year: not very good, below .500, and occasionally plays very well against a good team. This year is not much different for Toronto, as they have posted a 9-20 record overall this season. In February, the Raptors are 2-5, albeit against some good competition. In February alone Toronto has faced the Celtics twice, along with games against the Heat, Lakers, and Bucks. The Raptors’ leading scorer Andrea Bargnani is currently out nursing a calf injury and his return is uncertain. DeMar DeRozan has come into his own this season, averaging almost 15 points a game, and is the Raptors best pure scoring option.
The Knicks are 13-15 ATS and 7-7 ATS on the road. The Raptors are 11-16-2 ATS and 5-6-1 ATS at home.
Both of these teams will be fresh going into the contest on Tuesday, which negates any rest advantage for either squad. At this point, I’m going to treat Jeremy Lin like Tim Tebow: ride it while it’s hot. The Knicks look like they might be finally turning the corner and playing like the squad many thought they would be.
