The Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals meet Sunday in week 3 NFL action at State Farm Stadium.

The Detroit Lions need a feel good victory here to prevent a rough 0-3 start to the season. The Detroit Lions have lost seven straight road games. Matthew Stafford is completing 58.7 percent of his passes for 541 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Stafford has two or more touchdown passes in seven of his last 10 games. TJ Hockenson and Danny Amendola have combined for 220 receiving yards and one touchdown while Quintez Cephus has six receptions. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging 113.5 yards per contest, and Adrian Peterson leads the way with 134 yards on 21 carries. Defensively, Detroit is allowing 34.5 points and 425.5 yards per game. Tracy Walker leads the Detroit Lions with 11 tackles, Trey Flowers has one sack and Darryl Roberts has one pass deflection.

The Arizona Cardinals look for their second home victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Arizona Cardinals have split their last six home games. Kyler Murray is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 516 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Murray has one or less touchdown passes in five of his last seven games. DeAndre Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald have combined for 303 receiving yards and one touchdown while Andy Isabella has two receptions. The Arizona Cardinals ground game is averaging 170 yards per contest, and Murray leads the way with 158 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Arizona is allowing 17.5 points and 341 yards per game. Budda Baker leads the Arizona Cardinals with 20 tackles, Jordan Phillips has one sack and De’Vondre Campbell has two pass deflections.

The Lions are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in September and 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Cardinals are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in September, 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. NFC and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Lions last 5 games overall. The under is 5-2 in Cardinals last 7 games overall. The Lions are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 meetings in Arizona and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

The Detroit Lions defense has not looked sharp through the first two games and they’ve now failed to cover 11 of their last 13 contests. The Arizona Cardinals have shown a balanced attack through their first two games and that offense is only going to get better as Murray and Hopkins get more and more comfortable. While still early in the season, it feels like these are two teams heading in different directions. I’ll take my chances by laying the chalk with the Cardinals.
