The Panthers look to build on Tuesday’s huge shootout win over the Canucks when they continue their road trip in Edmonton to face the Oilers.
The Florida Panthers are in the midst of an awful start to the season and are likely to finish at or near the basement of the league standings but if there was ever a statement victory that will brighten the mood in Florida this year it’ll be Tuesday’s effort over the Canucks. The Panthers skated to a shootout win behind a stellar effort between the pipes from Tim Thomas who has a ton of history with the Canucks and goaltender Roberto Luongo and Tuesday marked another chapter to the saga. Florida rallied after being down early to force the extra session and claimed the second point leaving Canucks head coach John Tortorella fuming with his team. The Panthers head east to Edmonton to take on the Oilers who are coming off their best effort of the season as they trounced the Blue Jackets by a 7-0 mark but outside of that game have struggled mightily.

The Oilers have been projected to make some noise in the Western Conference over the past few seasons but each April the blue and orange have found themselves in line for a top selection the draft instead of competing for the Cup. However, with changes this past offseason that appeared as though the postseason would be a certainty this was the year that Edmonton would make the jump. Unfortunately, the Oilers haven’t been able to generate the success people have expected of them and as such the fire continues to burn under the seat of players, coaches, and management. Edmonton played very well against the Blue Jackets but results against Columbus always have to be taken with a grain of salt. They catch another bottom feeder in this one as they host Florida and even though these are the types of games Edmonton should win it is never that easy with them. I will give them the benefit of the doubt here as they are the better team and should be able to get two points at home.
