The Ducks look to regain their spot atop the Western Conference as they head to Los Angeles to take on the Kings in a California show down.
Anaheim put an end to their losing ways on the road in Colorado last night thanks in large part to a six goal second period and a strong defensive effort in the third that preserved a 6-4 victory. The Ducks were smacked by the Flames a couple of nights ago and the players were clearly disappointed with their effort but going on the road against a tough Avalanche team and putting up six is a good way to forget your hardships. The Ducks will look to prove they are the favourite to the win the West with a solid showing against their instate rivals who despite winning eight of their last nine games find themselves 13 points behind the Ducks in the standings. Jonas Hiller is expected to start as he will go up against Jonathan Quick for the Kings.
Los Angeles has been one of the hottest teams in the league since the Olympics ended but their eight game stretch was squashed by the Maple Leafs in their last outing thanks to a stellar night from Leafs goaltender James Reimer. The loss kept the Kings in the six seed in the standings, a spot they will likely find themselves at season’s end as they have a three point edge on the Wild but are eight points back of the fifth place Blackhawks. The Kings are a very good team though that is built to win from the crease out and they have a ton of guys on their team from their Cup win two seasons ago who know what it takes to claim the league championship. However, they are playing a very good Ducks team tonight who did play last night against the Avs but I think are getting the shaft a bit here and coming from me who is a supporter of the way the Kings play and a skeptic on the Ducks I think Anaheim gets the win here.
