In the first of two scheduled meetings this season, the Los Angeles Kings will host the Washington Capitals.

Washington has won three in a row and four of its last five games, putting itself back in the playoff hunt after a shaky start to the month. The key player for the Capitals recent turnaround has been newly acquired goalie Jaroslav Halak, who has allowed only two goals in four of his last six starts for Washington. Offensively, the Capitals have scored at least one power play goal in six of their last eight games, including four in their last two contests. Evgeny Kuznetsov has provided an offensive spark, racking up four assists in his last three games. The Washington Capitals are 13-16-0-5 on the road this season.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Washington Capitals - 3/20/14

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sport

Los Angeles has followed an eight-game winning streak with three straight losses. During this losing streak the Kings have lacked offense, scoring just six goals in their last three games. The goaltending, however, has been a thing of beauty for Los Angeles, as Jonathan Martin has allowed one or less goals in six of his last eight starts. Martin is the main reason why the Kings are first in the NHL in goals allowed with an average of 2.1 goals. The Los Angeles Kings are 19-13-2-1 on their home ice this season.

The Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Western Conference and 6-1 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest. The Kings are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record and 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest. The Capitals are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings against the Kings and 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles.

Although the Kings have had recent lengthy losing streaks this season, it’s hard seeing them lose four straight home games. The Capitals haven’t beaten the Kings since February of 2007, and I think that streak continues at least for one more game.

Take Los Angeles and the juice.
