The Hurricanes have been pegged by many to be a lottery team by season's end and for good cause as they simply don't have a very competitive roster and without Eric and Jordan Staal in the lineup things are even more bleak. Carolina was once a proud franchise that was very competitive but they have since hit a road block and could be a while before they can turns things around but with this upcoming draft class being what it is the Canes could very well land a top prospect and get back to the top sooner rather than later. They head into Winnipeg to take on a Jets team that is off to a quiet start but one that is expected to be competitive for a playoff spot but with Ondrej Pavelec as their every day starter it could be another tough finish for the Jets again this year.
Winnipeg is usually a very tough out on home ice but so far they have sent one of the game's loudest fan bases home quietly with back to back losses at the MTS Centre but this could be a perfect opportunity to change things around. The Jets have a lot of talent and should be a playoff team but as we saw last year there are some issues they need to resolve before they can take that next step and perhaps Paul Maurice has the answers. The Jets are a much better team than the Hurricanes but this line is a little bit out of whack as I still think Carolina can compete but I don't have nearly enough confidence to take them on a flier here so I'll attack the total. Winnipeg has some bangers up front and Cam Ward has been awful in the Carolina crease so I think taking the over would be the best play here as I think we could see the six goal mark met by the end of the second period.
