Number one seeded Italian Jannik Sinner will face Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 European Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday October 22nd, 2021.

Can the unseeded French player Arthur Rinderknech cause the huge upset by knocking out the top seed at the European Open? Jannik Sinner is heavily favoured to win this match and also this tournament, but upsets are always possible. Can Rinderknech do the unthinkable and move on to the Semi-Finals here in Antwerp?

Jannik Sinner is widely considered to be one of the top young players on the ATP Tour, and even though he is only 20 years old he has been climbing the rankings at an incredible rate, already at #13. The Italian has already won 4 titles in his short career including three this year, and has his eyes set on yet another here at the European Open. The number one seed received a bye in the First Round and then looked comfortable in his Round of 16 win over fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, winning 7-5, 6-2. Musetti simply could not keep up with Sinner’s explosiveness from the baseline, and Sinner returned serve extremely well, breaking three times to wrap the match up in just under 90 minutes. With the sort of year that he has had and his extreme talent, Jannik Sinner is the big favourite here to defeat Arthur Rinderknech of France and he is expected to move on here without many issues.

Arthur Rinderknech has been having a solid tournament here at the European Open, defeating two dangerous veterans in Federico Delbonis and Susan Lajovic to surprisingly reach this stage. The Frenchman has quietly been having a very good year, and despite not being very well known is up to #65 in the rankings. He has a very solid and consistent baseline game but it is unlikely that he will be able to trouble his opponent Jannik Sinner with his lack of firepower. If he plays well and uses his defence smartly, he may be able to frustrate his opponent, but his success depends on Sinner committing multiple unforced errors and that is not always a good tactic.

The two players have played once before, with Rinderknech surprisingly winning earlier in the year on the clay courts of Lyon. However, that was a very shocking win and there is almost no chance it repeats itself. Jannik Sinner is simply the much better player, and on this surface he should be able to hit through his opponent with relative ease. He is striking the ball so well and unless he completely falls apart which is unlikely, he will move on to the Semi-Finals here at the European Open, winning in two comfortable sets.
