This week, the LPGA travels to the state of Oregon for the Portland Classic.
Before I discuss my favorite first round matchup bet for the Portland Classic let’s take a look at the top five players in scoring average on the LPGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Brooke Henderson 69.49
- Hye-Jin Choi 69.62
- Nelly Korda 69.68
- Hannah Green 69.98
- Andrea Lee 70.45
Now that we have determined who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the LPGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite first round matchup bet for this week’s 2022 Portland Classic.
Leona Maguire +115 over Andrea Lee and Maria Fassi
Since the beginning of August, Leona Maguire has played four tournaments on the LPGA Tour. In those four events just noted, Maguire has accumulated three top ten finishes, including an impressive fourth place result at the 2022 Women’s British Open.
Due to the fact that Leona Maguire performed so well at the Women’s British Open, I decided to take a hard look at Maguire’s player statistics relative to the field.
After four rounds of competitive play at the 2022 Women’s British Open, in relation to the field, Leona Maguire ranked 14th in driving accuracy (62.5%), sixth in GIR (77.8%), and 17th in putting average (1.82).
It should also be noted that Leona Maquire has played well at this week’s LPGA event previously. Maguire finished 28th at the 2020 Portland Classic.
