The San Francisco Giants will look to win a four-game series over the Arizona Diamondbacks with a win on Thursday. The Giants took a 2-1 series lead over the D-Backs with a 2-0 win on Wednesday.
In the victory, Tim Hudson allowed just two hits in 7.2 innings and struck out seven batters. Tim Lincecum will hope to have similar success, as he gets the nod in game 4 for the Giants. Lincecum has been a little shaky the last few years, including last season as he finished the year with a 10-14 record and an ERA of 4.37. However, when Lincecum is on he’s one of the best pitchers in baseball and won the 2008 NL Cy Young to prove it. Lincecum is 8-8 with a 3.49 ERA in his career against the Diamondbacks.

For the first time this season, the Diamondbacks offense was ice cold, producing just three hits in a losing effort. However, pitcher Trevor Cahill did provide a solid six innings, allowing just two runs and four hits. Bronson Arroyo will make his Arizona debut after spending the last eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. Arroyo has won double-digit games in five of his last six seasons and had an ERA of 3.79 last season. Arroyo is 5-5 in his career against the Giants, but has a solid ERA of 2.69.
The Giants are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 4 of a series and 6-1 in Lincecums last 7 starts. The Diamondbacks are 0-4 in their last 4 during game 4 of a series and 1-6 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The Giants are 12-4 in the last 16 meetings in Arizona, but just 2-6 in Lincecums last 8 starts vs. Diamondbacks.
We are getting plus money with Lincecum on the mound. Wait I'm not sure you understand. We are getting the value with Lincecum, the better pitcher! Lincecum may not be anywhere near the level he was a few years ago, but he's still pretty darn good and capable of shutting down an Arizona lineup that isn't exactly scary.
I'll gladly take the Giants in this matchup with the added value.
