The Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Tuesday at Coors Field for game two of their series.
The Colorado Rockies simply never solved Cardinal pitching on Monday as they dropped game one of their series. Corey Dickerson had two hits and Charlie Blackmon had a hit as the Rockies failed to score o their three total hits. Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed four hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss to fall to 1-6 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Rockies start Jorge De La Rosa who has lost his last three decisions. For the season De la Rosa has allowed 68 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 60 over 77.2 innings for a 6-6 record and a 4.75 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals were dominant on Monday as they had no trouble beating the Rockies. Matt Adams had three hits including two home runs, Matt Holliday had two hits, and Jhonny Peralta had a hit as the Cardinals scored eight runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed just three hits while striking out seven over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-5 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who took the loss in his last start. For the season Miller as allowed 79 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 64 over 91 innings for a 7-6 record and a 3.56 ERA.
Colorado is 2-5 in game two of a series, 3-12 in their last 15 home games, and 40-11 in De La Rosa’s last 51 home starts. St. Louis is 4-1 against a left-handed starter, 11-4 in their last 15 games, and 10-4 in Miller’s last 14 starts as a favorite. St. Louis is 18-7 in the last 25 meetings of these two.
I look for the Rockies to bounce back here and while Miller has nice numbers, he is far better during the day while De La Rosa has traditionally been very tough at home.
