The Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles face off on Thursday as they close out their AL East series.
The Toronto Blue Jays got out to an early lead against the Orioles on Wednesday and they made it hold up getting the win. Jose Bautista had three hits including a home run, Melky Cabrera had three hits, and Munenori Kawasaki had two hits as the Blue Jays scored five runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Drew Hutchison allowed one hit and one run while striking out eight over 8.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-9 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Blue Jays start J.A. Happ who has two no decisions and a win in his last three starts. For the season Happ has allowed 100 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 77 over 95.1 innings for an 8-5 record and a 4.34 ERA.

The Baltimore Orioles never found their offense on Wednesday as they were beaten in Toronto. Chris Davis hit a home run and that was the only Oriole hit and Nick Markakis had a walk and was the only other Baltimore base runner. Starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings. For Thursday’s game the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez who took a loss in his last start after not losing in July. For the season Gonzalez has allowed 115 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 76 over 107.2 innings for a 5-6 record and a 3.93 ERA.
Toronto is 6-1 against the AL East, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 5-0 in Happ’s last six starts against the AL East. Baltimore is 7-1 on the road against a left-handed starter, 7-4 in their last 11 games, and 3-8 in Gonzalez’s last 11 road starts against a team with a winning record. Baltimore is 16-43 in their last 59 games in Toronto.
This one is a tough call but the Orioles hit lefties well even though they have never played well in Toronto they are my pick here in what is a lean.
