The New York Knicks return home to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night from Madison Square Garden.
Head to head, the Pelicans are 1-9 ATS in the last 10 meetings and 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in New York, while the underdog is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings. The Knicks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days, but just 0-7 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Pelicans on the other hand are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 road games, 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following a SU win of more than 10 points and 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
There were signs in the summer that the New York Knicks could slip this season, but no one thought they would be this bad. The Knicks are coming off a winless four-game road trip which extended their losing streak to eight overall, their longest since April of 2006. New York continues to struggle on the offensive end, shooting just 42 percent on their recent road trip and they haven't topped 100 points in any of their last seven outings.
The New Orleans Pelicans are coming off a 121-105 win in Philadelphia on Friday and are winners of four of their last six, but something still feels off about this team. At least we knew what they were last season - a defensive unit that would always play better on the road than at home. This season, however, they have been an inconsistent team that has lacked an identity. One night they are losing to Utah on the road then they are beating the 76ers by 37 at home in their next outing.
I've gone back and forth on this one for the last five hours and I still can't come up with a clear winner. The Knicks have lost eight straight, so they are due for a win very soon, maybe tonight. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are playing ok basketball at the moment, but they have lost their last four road game by an average of 13 points prior to their win in Philly on Friday night. It's not ideal that this the Knicks first game back off a road trip, but something has to go there way soon right?
