The Cleveland Indians and Oakland Athletics will play a doubleheader on Wednesday due to Tuesday’s matchup being postponed. I have my pick for the earlier game (Tuesday’s game) under the MLB section, but the night matchup will be between Zach McAlister and an unknown pitcher for the A’s.
The Indians won the first matchup on Monday, 2-0, as the A’s bats went completely silent. The Indians scored two runs in the top of the ninth due to an RBI by Nyjer Morgan and Nick Swisher. Meanwhile, the Athletics pitching staff had a solid day, but the batters managed only five hits and struck out seven times.
USA TODAY Sports
McAlister enters his fourth season with the Indians and finished last season with a 9-9 record and a 3.75 ERA. McAlister is just 6-8 in his career on the road with a 3.47 ERA. McAlister is also 1-1 with an ERA of 4.50 in three career games against Oakland.
The A’s have yet to name a starting pitcher, but that should change once we get closer to the game being played. There's a chance it's going to be Jesse Chavez, who finished last season with a 2-4 record and a ERA of 3.92. Chavez has bounced around in his career and has an ugly career ERA of 5.48. Please confirm pitching matchups before wagering.
The Indians are 5-0 in their last 5 road games and 5-0 in Klubers last 5 starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Athletics are 23-10 in their last 33 vs. American League Central. The Indians are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings, but are just 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Oakland.
I'm going to side with Oakland simply because it's the home team, and the A's have had the Indians number recently in games played at O.co Coliseum.
