Memphis and Oklahoma City will clash Monday night in what should be a terrific NBA game. The Grizzles have surprisingly won six straight and the Thunder have remained one of the hottest teams in the league over the last month. These teams have met two times earlier in the year and have split those games.
The Grizzles got off to a horrible start to the season but are finally playing the way they’re capable of playing. In their last six games they’re allowing just 86.3 points, which is simply unheard of. The offense has also improved over their last five games, shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. During this winning streak, Memphis has beaten the Rockets twice, Portland on the road and Minnesota on the road.

Oklahoma City is coming off a mysterious blowout loss to Washington. The Thunder shot only 39.7 percent from the field and turned the ball over 21 times. Considering the way they’ve played over the last several weeks, it’s fair to chalk that game up as a fluke. OKC is still shooting 52 percent from the field in its last five games and averaging more than 105 points.
The Thunder deserve to be the favorite at home considering they are 20-3 SU in front of their home fans. But the spread is way too high. Memphis has finally turned the corner and is playing like the sleeper in the Western Conference it was supposed to be all season. It’s 4-0 against the spread in its last four road games and is 8-0 against the spread in its last eight matchups against teams with a winning SU record.
Memphis has also covered six of its last seven meetings against Oklahoma City.
I think the Grizzles could win this game SU if they continue to play elite level defense. But I’ll gladly take the points just to be safe.
