Georgia is hosting Spain at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in round 2 of the World Cup Qualifications.
Georgia is still winless, and that streak was prolonged after their game against Sweden a few days ago. That streak is now 6 games. In the said game against Sweden on the road, Georgia has had 46% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 79% of the correct passes. This wasn’t a bad game from Georgia, but they conceded a goal in the 35th minute, and this game ended in a 1-0 in favor of Sweden. Georgia is not a particularly good team, as their record states, and I don’t see them getting close to that second place, and their maximum would be 4th place for which they will be fighting with Kosovo. Georgia has scored only 1 goal in their last 4 games, and they will be under immense pressure in this game, which is why I think they will not score in this game as well. Georgia has had a few talented players over the years, but they stopped producing talent because they are not investing in the future of soccer in Georgia.
Spain has been struggling as of late, especially in the attacking end. In their last game against Greece at home, Spain was immensely dominating with 79% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and a high 92% of the correct passes. After getting ahead in the 33rd minute, it looked like Spain will score 2 or 3 more goals, and that they will win this match easily, but it didn’t happen. Spain has conceded a goal in the 56th minute from the penalty spot, and the final score of this match was 1-1. At this point, Spain is in 3rd place, but I think it’s only a matter of time before they get back on track. Morata is the only goalscorer for Spain with 1 goal in these qualifications, while Koke added an assist. Spain has a lot of depth, at least in the midfield and the defense, but Morata and Moreno are their only two strikers, and that is a big part of Spain’s efficiency problem. I have no doubt Spain will qualify for the world cup, but they need to start by winning their next two games, and since they are playing against weak opponents, I think it will happen.
Georgia has actually beaten Spain in their last game, but it was a friendly game. Spain is the better team here, and I see them dominating Georgia with a high possession, I see Spain creating a ton of chances, and I think they will finally score a few goals.
