The Houston Astros and the Detroit Tigers meet in game two of a doubleheader in MLB action from Comerica Park on Saturday.
The Houston Astros will look to build off of their 12-3 rout of the Tigers on Thursday. Yordan Alvarez led the way with five RBIs, belting a grand slam while Carlos Correa went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Martin Maldonado had two RBIs and Abraham Toro and Yuli Gurriel each had an RBI to round out Houston’s scoring as a team in the win with Gurriel going 3 for 5 with a double. Myles Straw went 4 for 6 at the dish while Michael Brantley and Kyle Tucker each had two hits with Brantley adding a double as well to cap off the offense for the ‘Stros in the win. Luis Garcia got the win to improve to 6-4 on the year after allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Lance McCullers Jr. will start here and is 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season. in his career, McCullers Jr. is 2-2 with a 5.95 ERA and 18 strikeouts against Detroit.
The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound from a frustrating loss at the hands of the Astros on Thursday. Akil Baddoo and Daz Cameron each had a double and an RBI with Baddoo going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles while Cameron had a 2 for 3 day at the plate. Willi Castro added an RBI as well to finish off Detroit’s scoring as a team in the loss while Robbie Grossman added a double as well. Erik Haase had a pair of hits while Jeimer Candelario and Nomar Mazara each had a base hit as well to cap off the offense for Detroit in the win. Jose Urena took the loss on the mound, falling to 2-8 on the year after allowing four earned runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings of work. Wily Peralta will start here and is 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. This will be Peralta’s second career start against Houston.
Houston is 49-19 in their last 68 games against the AL Central while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games as a favorite. The over is 5-2 in Detroit’s last 7 games as an underdog.
These seven inning games can be tough as it gives both teams a shorter amount of time to get the job done, or if you’re backing a heavy favorite like Houston, less time to potentially cover the run line. However, Peralta wasn’t very good in his debut and Houston isn’t the team I’d want to face if you’re trying to rebound and turn things around. Give me the Astros in another beatdown.
