Early SEC 2021 Football Conference Champion Pick
The SEC is always the most exciting conference in college football, and this year looks like it’s going to be competitive. The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Florida Gators for the SEC Championship last year. Will Alabama win the SEC title again this season, or will some other team get the job done.
Picks for the 2021 SEC Football Championship
Alabama Crimson Tide (-167)
The Alabama Crimson Tide is going to look a lot different for the 2021 season, but this is still a loaded team that seems to reload every year. Gone for the Crimson Tide are quarterbacks Mac Jones, wide receivers Jaylen Waddle and Devonta Smith, and running back Najee Harris. Five-star quarterback Bryce Young is expected to take over the offense, and he has wide receiver John Metchie III back who looks like a future first-round draft pick. The defense the last few years hasn’t been elite, but this is a loaded group and the expectation should be that the defense is going to be better.
Georgia Bulldogs (+250)
The Georgia Bulldogs weren’t the best team in the SEC during the 2021 season but they are a team that looks like they should compete for the 2021 season. Georgia is going to be led under center by JT Daniels who was a standout at USC, and looked good last year for the Bulldogs. The defense last season for Georgia was strong for the most part, but a few games they struggled, and that led to them not winning the conference. The secondary is going to be the strength for the defense this season. For Georgia this year it’s probably going to come down to if they can find success against Alabama.
Texas A&M Aggies (+1000)
The Texas A&M Aggies look to be a team that could be turning the corner back into a National Championship contender. Last season for Texas A&M was impressive finishing with a 9-1 record overall including a win during the Orange Bowl. Gone is quarterback Kellan Mond who moved onto the NFL, but they will lean heavily on running back Isaiah Spiller who finished with over 1.000 rushing yards last season. On defense, there are some questions, but the defensive line is going to be the strength. If the defense as a whole is strong, this team could be special.
Ole Miss Rebels (+2500)
The Ole MIss Rebels were one of the most exciting teams in college football last season because of the offense. Quarterback Matt Corral very well could be the best quarterback in the SEC in terms of stats. The offense isn’t going to be the concern though, the big question has to do with the defense. The defense had some major issues and winning the title could depend on that. Even if the Rebels don’t win the title, this is a team that is going to be fun to watch.
Tennessee Volunteers (+10,000)
The Tennessee Volunteers hired Josh Heupel to take over as the head coach, and when he was in charge at UCF, it was all about pace and scoring with the offense. The big question for Tennessee right now is who will be put in charge to lead the offense under center. Harrison Bailey, Joe Milton, and Hendon Hooker are all players who could get that job. On defense, they look to be an average bunch but they have some key players who could make this group an above average group. How they replace some of the linebackers they lost will be important for this team.
The Rest of the Conference Odds:
- LSU Tigers (+1200)
- Florida Gators (+1400)
- Auburn Tigers (+2200)
- Missouri Tigers (+2500)
- Kentucky Wildcats (+4000)
- Arkansas Razorbacks (+10000)
- Mississippi State Bulldogs (+10000)
- South Carolina Gamecocks (+15000)
- Vanderbilt Commodores (+50000)
The Pick: Alabama seems like the obvious choice, but there is no chance I am laying -167 on a futures pick. Ole Miss has the offense to win the title, it’s going to come down to the defense, and I think that side of the ball is going to step up. Look for Ole Miss to win the Conference Championship and for the +2500 to cash.
