Jannik Sinner vs Gael Monfils

Jannik Sinner meets Gael Monfils in the third round of the 2021 US Open on Saturday, September 4th 2021. Who will make their way into the fourth round?
Who will come out on top of this very entertaining encounter between a veteran of the sport and who many believe is going to be the future of the sport? Will it be Sinner to continue rising in stardom by making a name for himself in big tournaments, or will it be Monfils to keep going at his best in his 17th US Open?
Gael Monfils had to fight off the somewhat unknown American, Steve Johnson, in the second round, beating him in 4 sets 7-5/4-6/6-4/6-4. Monfils was not playing at his best during the first few sets of the match, but he was then able to find his range on his forehand which allowed him to move Johnson around comfortably and got him the win in the end. Monfils knows he wont have too many more moments on the court if injuries keep flaring up, so he will be happy and hoping to keep this US Open campaign going here in 2021.
Jannik Sinner showed both resilience and some areas of weaknesses in his game in the second round, coming through a 4-set match against the wildcard Zachary Svajda, who no one has ever heard about, winning 6-3/7-6/6-7/6-4. Jannik should not be too content with that win because it was not as dominant as he should have been. You can tell Jannik is still quite young just because he might not completely understand the value of winning those matches in straight sets because it both reduces time on the court, but also builds your confidence and reduces your next opponents confidence.
This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with both players having won an encounter against each other. They have not met in 2 years and a lot has changed since they last met. Although Monfils has the experience and the game to take it to the edge with anyone, I think that Sinner has too many tricks in his arsenal which will allow him to tire the Frenchman out. Monfils has great power and athleticism, but we have seen in recent times that his stamina is faltering. Jannik will not be afraid to play an extremely long match and get the win in that way.
