Young Boys is welcoming Manchester United to Wankdorf Stadion in round 1 of Group F of the UEFA Champions League. Young Boys has had an excellent game in Switzerland over the weekend, and they are the best team in their home league. United has gotten Ronaldo back, and he has scored 2 goals in his first game this past weekend leading Manchester United to their win.
Young Boys has had a slow start in the Swiss Super League, but they have won their last game against Zurich at home, the team that is at the top of the standings. Young Boys was mighty impressive in that match with 64% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 6 big chances created, and 84% of the correct passes. Defensively, Young Boys was even better than in the attacking end, and that says a lot considering they scored 4 goals. Young Boys has won this game 4-0. In the Champions League, Young Boys is probably the weakest team behind Atalanta, United, and Villarreal, but if they can play solid defense, I think they might be good enough to compete for second place, but honestly, it is a long shot. I think Young Boys is more suited for the Europa League, and even that will be hard to reach this season.
United is on fire, they have a lot of depth, and they have gotten a pure goalscorer in Ronaldo this season, and now it’s time for trophies. I said before the season started that United is my favorite to win the EPL title this season, and they have certainly started well. United has 3 wins and a draw in their first 4 games, they have scored 11 goals, while conceding only 3 goals. Pogba has been impressive for United with a lot of assists this season already, and he is the player they will need to create behind Ronaldo, Sancho, and Fernandes. In their last EPL game against Newcastle, United was the better team with 64% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 5 big chances created, and a high 90% of the correct passes. The score was 1-1 in the 56th minute, but quickly after, United is waking up. And they are scoring 3 more goals, and the final score was 4-1. United has lost in the Europa League finals last season, but they were solid in the EPL, and if they can keep their defense on a high enough level this season, not only United will win the EPL, but they could also be a huge threat in the Champions League.
These teams have met twice before, and United has won both of those games, and I am honestly surprised why they aren’t bigger favorites here. I think Manchester United will create a ton of chances in this game, and I think they will get a nice win to start this campaign.
