September 22, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Second seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan will face unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Astana Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday September 22nd, 2021.
A high-quality match is expected here at the 2021 Astana Open as Alexander Bublik and Miomir Kecmanovic do battle for a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Both men are highly talented young players and while they have been inconsistent, have been making their mark on the ATP Tour in recent years. The will each be looking for more consistent results and will be hoping for a strong showing this week in Kazakhstan to get their up and down seasons back on the right track. Can Kecmanovic upset the second seeded Bublik in his home tournament? Or will the Kazakh star draw from the crowd support as he seeks to win the title?
Alexander Bublik is the second seed here at his home tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan and he will be highly motivated to win the title here. One of the most talented and enigmatic players on tour, Bublik has recently matured greatly as a player and does not lose his focus as much as he used to, concentrating on the tennis instead of external factors. He possesses a huge game, especially his serve and forehand which he will be looking to here to get him past a very tough opponent in Miomir Kecmanovic. He has been very inconsistent this season and will be hoping for a successful week here at home to help him finish the year strongly. If he is able to keep his focus he should he considered the favorite here but it certainly won’t be easy.
Miomir Kecmanovic is unseeded here at the 2021 Astana Open and is ranked #60 in the world. Like his opponent Alexander Bublik, the Serbian is a very talented young player but tends to be inconsistent at times, which is the main reason he finds himself outside the top 50 in the ATP world rankings. Once ranked as high as #38 in the world, he has regressed a bit this year with some poor performances after switching coaches and he will be hoping to get back on the right patch. He entered this event on a four match losing streak but was impressive in his First Round victory over the experienced Fernando Verdasco, nullifying the Spaniard’s huge baseline game with some solid and consistent tennis. When he is clicking he can be very tough to beat and he will be backing himself here against Alexander Bublik despite being the underdog.
This is a very difficult early round match for Alexander Bublik, as Miomir Kecmanovic is capable of some very good tennis. However, I am backing the Kazakh to pass the test here and advance to the Quarter-Finals. He has more firepower than his opponent, and playing at home will give him some extra motivation. Once he is fully focused he is capable of being one of the best players in the world and I expect him to put in a good performance here on home soil, getting the win in two tough sets and advancing to the next round here at the 2021 Astana Open.
