The Evansville Aces and the Belmont Bruins meet in college basketball action from the Curb Event Center on Saturday.
The Evansville Aces will be looking to build on their 60-40 win over IUPUI last time out. Evan Kuhlman leads the Aces in scoring with 12 PPG along with 5 RPG while Shamar Givance and Blaise Beauchamp each have 11.5 PPG to cap off the trio of Aces that are averaging double figures scoring this season with Givance posting team-highs of 5.5 RPG, 3 APG and 2 SPG through the Aces’ first two games of the season. Jawaun Newton is also averaging 8.5 PPG this season. As a team, Evansville is averaging 51.5 PPG on 34.8% shooting from the field, 28.9% from three and 68.4% from the foul line while allowing 52.5 PPG on 39.8% from the foul line and 27% from three this season.
The Belmont Bruins come into this game looking to bounce back from a 92-80 loss at the hands of Ohio in their season opener. Ben Sheppard led the Bruins with 25 points on 7 of 14 shooting with 3 threes while Nick Muszynski had 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting with 6 assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Belmont in the losing effort. Grayson Murphy and Luke Smith each had 8 points with 3 made field goals and a pair of threes with Murphy logging team-highs of 10 rebounds and 7 assists as well in the defeat. As a team, Belmont shot 46.7% from the field, 34.6% from three and 93.8% from the foul line in the loss.
Evansville is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 games as a road underdog. Belmont is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 11-2 in their last 13 Saturday games.
I get the case to be made for the points after how Belmont looked in their opener, but realistically, the Aces just don’t have the horses to keep up with Belmont in my opinion. The Bruins brought back loads of top-tier talent from last year’s team and while Evansville brought guys back too and have looked good defensively, the Bruins bring the toughest test that Evansville’s had yet. I’ll lay the points with the Bruins in a comfortable win.
