The Liberty Flames and the Manhattan Jaspers meet Saturday in college basketball action from  HP Field House. Liberty is fresh off a matchup versus Iona. In that one the Flames took a four-point defeat. As for Manhattan, they played North Alabama in their last game. The Jaspers ended up winning by four points. Liberty did well in their first game of the year. The Flames took on Regent VA in something of a warmup outing, surging to a dominant 85-24 win. Game two against LSU didn’t go as well for Liberty, however; the Flames ended up losing 74-58 after a slim first-half edge.

In Friday’s matchup against Iona, Liberty had a 25-23 lead going into halftime but gave up 31 points in the second half during a 54-50 loss. The Flames lead scorer was Darius McGhee with 12 points, three rebounds and one assist.

Over on the Manhattan side, they didn’t have any issue against Manhattanville in their opener during a 99-42 win. Game two was another victory 66-60 over Fordham. In the Old Dominion game the Jaspers took their first defeat, playing flat in a 79-58 result.

In the Friday game against North Alabama, Manhattan trailed 33-31 at the break but allowed just 18 points from there in a 55-51 win. Anthony Nelson was the high scorer with 10 points and six rebounds.

Liberty is 12-4 ATS in their last 16 neutral-site games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. The under is 10-4-1 in their last 16 overall.
Meanwhile, the Jaspers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games. The under is 23-9-1 in Manhattan’s last 33 Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Manhattan here, but staying away. Manhattan shot just 38.3 percent in the North Alabama game on Friday, but did a reasonable job on the boards (32 rebounds) and came up with 16 blocks in the victory. It was a sloppy game in a lot of ways, but still a victory.

As for Liberty, they shot poorly in the Gaels game (but to be fair, Iona shot just 27.8 percent themselves) and lost the rebound battle 43-34. There were certainly some missed opportunities, as Liberty had a 16-point lead in one spot. The Flames could bounce back and play well here, but it’s probably one to avoid.
