Denver has had an up-and-down season so far. The Pioneers went 2-3 in their first five games, beating Regis CO and IUPUI while otherwise falling to Ottawa AZ, UTSA and Texas A&M-CC in the other three.
On Sunday against Houston Baptist, the Pioneers got their record back to .500 on the year with a 74-61 win. Denver outscored the Huskies 40-26 in the second half on the way to the victory. Jordan Johnson led the way offensively with 20 points.
Over on the Air Force side, they took a tough loss 59-53 to South Dakota in their opener but then hit their stride. In the next three, the Falcons would beat Tulsa, Texas Southern and Holy Cross to move to 3-1.
Air Force got another win on Sunday against Bethune-Cookman. The Falcons had a 41-39 deficit at the break, but surged from there in a 73-65 result. AJ Walker led the team on his 22 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Falcons are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS loss. Air Force is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven on Wednesday and 19-40-1 ATS in their last 60 road games. Denver is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 overall.
PICK: I’m going with Air Force. The Falcons started out a bit slowly against Bethune-Cookman but had a nice second half. Air Force shot 48.9 percent overall and out-rebounded the Wildcats 29-20. As for Denver, they’ve been hit and miss so far this year. That said, the Pioneers also had a nice finish over HBU in their last game. Still, if Air Force gets their offense working early I like them to be in line for the cover.
