The Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers collide at the Staples Center on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their past eight games and they will be hoping to put an end to a three-game slide after falling short to the Kings in a 124-115 home loss on Wednesday. Terance Mann and Luke Kennard each scored 19 points, Ivica Zubac scored 17 points while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 12 points and six assists. As a team, the Clippers shot 47 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they fell into a hole early after scoring just 21 points in the first quarter, before getting run of the floor in the third quarter where the Kings poured in 37 points to put them behind by as many as 25 points. Serge Ibaka had a quiet night as he finished with just five points on two of eight shooting while Marcus Morris scored just two points on one of nine shooting.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their past six games and they will be aiming for a third straight win after making light work of the Kings in a 117-92 road win on Tuesday. Anthony Davis led the team with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Russell Westbrook added 23 points with six assists while Malik Monk drained six 3-pointers to finish with 22 points off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the 3-point line as they struggled early and trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, before clamping down defensively and outscoring the Kings by 67-33 in the second half to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Lakers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as a home underdog, 8-20 ATS in their last 28 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings overall, the Clippers are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings in Los Angeles and the Clippers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Clippers have really been in a rut lately and their confidence took another hit after a slow start cost them against the Kings on Wednesday. The Lakers have been in decent shape as they just dismantled the Kings by 25 points on Tuesday, but they’re a little banged up as Anthony Davis is listed as questionable, while LeBron James is listed as day to day. Despite their recent struggles, the Clippers will always get up for a clash against their rivals and they are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings in Los Angeles, so that’s where I’m leaning in this one. Give me the Clippers to escape with the much-needed win here.
