The Campbell Camels and the VCU Rams meet in college basketball action from the Stuart Siegel Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Campbell Camels come into this one looking to build on their 83-39 win over subdivision Lancaster Bible College last time out. Ricky Clemons leads the Camels in scoring and rebounding with 12.4 PPG and 6.1 RPG while Cedric Henderson JR. has 12.1 PPG with 5.9 RPG and Jordan Whitfield’s got 10 PPG with 2.4 APG as well to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Campbell up to this point in the season. Jesus Carralero has 9.9 PPG and a team-high 4.4 APG and Messiah Thompson has 9.7 PPG as well on the year for the Camels. As a team, Campbell is averaging 69.3 PPG on 47.4% shooting from the field, 31% from three and 67% from the foul line while allowing 57.3 PPG on 38.3% shooting from the field and 30.9% from three this season.

The VCU Rams will look to rebound from a 70-63 loss to UConn in OT last time out. Vince Williams Jr. leads VCU in scoring and assists with 11.3 PPG and 2.7 APG as the lone double-digit scorer up to this point for VCU in the season. Jayden Nunn has 9.3 PPG and KeShawn Curry also has 8.7 PPG. As a team, VCU is averaging 56.3 PPG on 40.1% shooting from the field, 28.4% from three and 61.3% from the foul line while allowing 57 PPG on 33.3% shooting from the field and 23.8% from three this season.

Campbell is 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. VCU is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games.

I get why you’d make a case for VCU here, as the Rams have played suffocating defense all season. However, it’s still hard to trust VCU to cover a double-digit spread when they’re one of the worst scoring teams in the country. Campbell is only three spots behind the Rams in terms of scoring defense this season and even if you take out the subdivision games, the Camels are still allowing just 61.4 PPG, only four points more than their current average with everything factored in. I can see this being a nine-point VCU win so I’ll take the Camels and the points here.
