The Texas Longhorns and the Seton Hall Pirates meet Thursday in college basketball action from Prudential Center. Texas is 6-1 so far this year and coming off a win over UT Rio Grande Valley. As for Seton Hall, they’re sitting at 7-1 and fresh off a victory versus Nyack. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas lost to Gonzaga 86-74 in their second game of the year, but otherwise it’s been smooth sailing. The Longhorns have recorded victories over Houston Baptist, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Cal Baptist, Sam Houston and UT Rio Grande Valley so far.
In Friday’s win over UT Rio Grande Valley, Texas had a relatively slim 46-41 lead at the break but outscored the Vaqueros 42-17 from there in an 88-58 blowout. Christian Bishop topped the team on 17 points with three boards in 14 minutes.
Over on the Seton Hall side, their lone loss wast 79-76 to Ohio State on November 22. The Pirates have beaten Fairleigh Dickinson, Yale, Michigan, California, Bethune Cookman, Wagner and Nyack otherwise this season.
Back on Saturday versus Nyack, Seton Hall scored 48 points in the first half and 65 more in the second on the way to a 113-67 win. Jamir Harris led the way on 23 points, while Tyrese Samuel doubled up with 22 points and 12 boards.
The Pirates are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 at home and 25-8 ATS in their last 33 Thursday games. The under is 9-3 in Seton Hall’s last 12 overall.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 overall and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games. The under is 15-5 in Texas’ last 20 Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going with Seton Hall here. The Pirates are coming off a cupcake game that they won handily with 63.3 percent shooting, 46 rebounds and 20 team assists. Seton Hall has had a couple of close calls this year, but generally they’re putting up solid points totals. The Pirates have hit 76 or more in six of eight outings.
As for Texas, they took a while to get going defensively versus UTRGV, but everything turned out okay. The Longhorns have 68 points or more in six of their seven games, so this one may turn into a high-scoring affair. Should be a great matchup, but I’m leaning slightly toward Seton Hall on a cover.
