Presbyterian began the year on a 5-2 run with losses to Clemson and Cincinnati. Since then it’s been a 2-4 stretch for the Blue Hose. The losses in that run have come courtesy of Tennessee, Morehead State, Charleston and Wofford.
Matched up against Wofford on Saturday, the Hose scored just 20 points in the first half. Presbyterian eventually limped to a 76-49 blowout loss. Rayshon Harrison was the leading scorer on 15 points and three rebounds.
Over on the Furman side, they won six of their fist eight games against North Greenville, Louisville, Radford, USC Upstate, High Point and Charleston. The Paladins are 1-3 in their last four with losses to Winthrop, North Carolina and Mississippi State.
In the Friday game versus Mississippi State, the Paladins fought back from a 35-24 halftime deficit but couldn’t bridge the gap in a 69-66 defeat. Alex Hunter led the way on 30 points, and Jalen Slawson added 13 points with eight boards.
Furman is 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven at home and 7-18-2 ATS in their last 27 overall. The over is 10-3 in the Paladins’ last 13 overall.
Meanwhile, the Hose are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 overall. Presbyterian is 3-0-1 ATS in the last four after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to try Presbyterian in this one, but probably staying away. The Hose are coming off a flat game against a good Wofford team and they really need a bounce-back here. Presbyterian has scored 66 points or fewer in two of their last four games, and the offense has been spotty all year.
As for the Paladins, they shot well against Mississippi State (54.3 percent) in their last game but were lacking in rebounding (23) and turnovers (18). Furman has stalled out on offense over the last couple of games themselves, but I think they’ll do better here. The Hose are going to need a good push but I think they can keep the pace.
