The Milwaukee Panthers and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies meet in college basketball action from the Athletics Center O’Rena on Sunday afternoon.
The Milwaukee Panthers will look to bounce back from an 85-60 loss at the hands of Detroit Mercy in their last game. DeAndre Gholston leads the Panthers in scoring with 15.2 PPG along with 5 RPG while Patrick Baldwin Jr. has 13.4 PPG and 6.6 RPG in eight games so far this season. Josh Thomas has 10.2 PPG while Donovan Newby has 8.5 PPG as well for the Panthers on the year. Joey St. Pierre leads the Panthers on the glass with 6.4 RPG while Jordan Lathon has a team-high 3.1 APG to lead the Panthers in the assist department as well this season. As a team, Milwaukee is averaging 64.1 PPG on 41.8% shooting from the field, 30.2% from three and 70.3% from the foul line while allowing 69.1 PPG on 38.9% shooting from the field and 32.8% from three this season.
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies will look to build on a 108-40 win over Ohio Christian in their last game. Jamal Cain leads Oakland in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 21.3 PPG and 10.5 RPG while Jalen Moore has 14.8 PPG and a team-high 7.9 APG to lead the Grizz in the assist department. Trey Townsend has 14.9 PPG and 6.1 RPG up to this point in the season. Micah Parrish also has 10 PPG with 6.8 RPG as well to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Oakland this season. As a team, Oakland is averaging 75.1 PPG on 45.3% shooting from the field, 29.2% from three and 77.1% from the foul line while allowing 66.1 PPG on 40.8% shooting from the field and 27.1% from three this season.
Milwaukee is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Oakland is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a win by 20 or more points while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record.
I get why you’d give a look to Milwaukee and the points, but the bottom line is that the Panthers just don’t score consistently enough to make up for their shortcomings on the defensive end. Oakland it’s flashy, but they can score points in bunches and I think the Golden Grizzlies do enough to pull away and get a cover here.
