In their first eight games this year, the Gamecocks stumbled to a 3-5 record with wins over only Alabama A&M, Drexel and Elon. Jacksonville State has since won seven of eight versus La Grange, FIU, Little Rock, Carver, North Alabama, Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky.
Matched up against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, the Gamecocks posted a 40-31 run in the second half on the way to a 76-65 win. Leading the way was Jalen Gibbs on 21 points, seven rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Central Arkansas side, they won just two of their first dozen games versus Oral Roberts and Hendrix College. The Bears have bounced back to win four of five however, taking out Champion Christian, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb and North Alabama.
In Saturday’s game versus North Alabama, the Bears fought back from a 10-point halftime deficit to force overtime. Central Arkansas would eventually emerge victorious 89-88. Darious Hall topped the team on 25 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last five at home and 1-9 ATS int their last 10 after an ATS win. Central Arkansas is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Gamecocks are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 20-8 ATS in the last 28 overall. Jacksonville State is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to go with Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks have looked pretty good over this five-game win streak. They’ve hit 76 or more points in four of those matchups and are a far cry from the team that sat at 3-5 back in early December. Central Arkansas has been playing pretty well over their last five games themselves however, with 79 or more points in four of those. Still, if Jacksonville State can get off to a good start offensively here I think they’ll be fine on a cover. Should be a fun matchup.
