The TCU Horned Frogs and the Oklahoma Sooners meet Monday in college basketball action from Lloyd Noble Center. TCU is sitting at 14-4 on the year so far. The Frogs beat LSU in their last game on Saturday. As for Oklahoma, they’re currently 13-8 on the year and coming off a loss to Auburn. TCU posted a 10-1 stretch to open the year, losing to only Santa Clara. The Frogs have hit a 4-3 run since then. The losses have been to Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas; the wins have come versus Kansas State, Oklahoma, Iowa State and LSU.
Matched up against LSU on Saturday, the Frogs outscored the Tigers 38-29 in the first half and held on from there in an impressive 77-68 victory. Both Chuck O’Bannon and Mike Miles put up 19 points apiece, combining for 14 rebounds as well.
Over on the Oklahoma side, they got off to an 11-2 start to begin their season. The Sooners have gone just 2-6 since then, though. The wins were over Iowa State and West Virginia; the losses were to Baylor, Texas, TCU, Kansas, Baylor again and then Auburn.
In the Auburn game, the Sooners scored just 27 points in the first half. After a 47-41 second-half deficit, Oklahoma limped to an 86-68 defeat. Jordan Goldwire was tops on 19 points and four assists, while Umoja Gibson added 14 points and three boards.
The Sooners are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Monday games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss. The over is 5-2 in Oklahoma’s last seven at home versus a team with a winning road record.
Meanwhile, the Frogs are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 5-1 ATS in the last six overall. TCU is 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to try TCU. This one’s bound to be a tight, competitive matchup, though. The last time these teams met up back on January 15, TCU eked out a tense 59-58 overtime victory. The Frogs shot 43.9 percent from the floor to the Sooners’ 40 percent and also won the rebounding battle 37-36. It was a sloppy game from both sides though, with 39 total turnovers.
This one should be another lower-scoring battle; TCU has been at 60 points or fewer in five of their last six outings. I think the Frogs will be able to bang out a cover here, and it should be a very close finish.
