The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Florida Atlantic Owls meet Tuesday in college basketball action from FAU Arena. Old Dominion is sitting at 9-13 so far this year. The Monarchs lost to Western Kentucky in their last game. As for Florida Atlantic, they’re 14-9 and coming off a win over Southern Miss. Old Dominion has been a pretty sketchy team this season; they’ve only been able to win consecutive games three times thus far. Since their last pair of wins over Charlotte and Marshall, the Monarchs fell to Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Matched up against Western Kentucky, the Monarchs were outscored 26-33 in the first half and 34-44 in the second on the way to a 77-60 loss. CJ Keyser led the way on 19 points, and Kalu Ezikpe added 16 points with six boards and four rebounds.
Over on the Florida Atlantic side, they hit an 8-8 record over their first 16 games this season. The Owls are 6-1 in their last seven games, though. They’ve taken out Charlotte, Western Kentucky, Marshall, UTSA, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss in that time.
In the Southern Miss game on Saturday, the Owls scored 42 points in each half on the way to an 84-57 win. Brandon Weatherspoon led the team with 16 points. Michael Forrest chipped in 13 points with six rebounds and five assists.
The Owls are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 at home and 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall. FAU is 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five after an ATS loss. The over is 4-0 in ODU’s last four road games.
PICK: I’m staying with FAU here. The Owls are coming off a nice game versus Southern Miss, shooting 51.6 percent from the field with 40 rebounds and 15 team assists. Florida Atlantic has scored well over this 6-1 run, hitting 68 or more points in each game. As for Old Dominion, they’ve been a mixed bag on the scoreboard lately so it’s going to take a big push to stay in range. I don’t think the Monarchs will quite get there.
