Long Beach State started out the year at a shaky 4-9 but they’ve hit a nine-game win streak since then. Those wins were over UCSB, CSU Northridge, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Davis, CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly and CSU Fullerton.
Matched up against CSU Fullerton on Tuesday, the Beach were down 28-33 heading into halftime. Long Beach State notched a 43-28 run from there in a 71-61 win. Leading scorer Colin Slater put up 19 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Hawaii side, they got off to a 4-5 start before taking a postponement break from December 23 to January 8. The Warriors would come back to a seven-game win streak, then lost a pair to UC Riverside and UC Davis.
On Saturday versus UC Davis, the Warriors went into halftime all tied up at 29. Hawaii was outscored 36-39 in the second in a tough 68-65 loss. Kamaka Hepa was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Warriors are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine overall and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss. The under is 7-3 in Hawaii’s last 10 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Beach are 8-0 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 12-2 ATS in their last 14 road games. LBSU is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Long Beach State. The Beach have been scoring well over this nine-game win streak, with 70 or more points in eight of those outings. Interestingly enough, Long Beach State’s last loss was to Hawaii 72-67 back on January 8. LBSU shot just 37.5 percent in that one but won the rebounding battle 39-34. This rematch won’t be easy, but I like the Beach to put up a good offensive game and power out a cover. Should be a fun matchup to check out.
