The Grambling State Tigers and the Prairie View A&M Panthers meet Monday in college basketball action from William Nicks Building. Grambling State is 10-14 this year so far. The Tigers lost to Texas Southern in their last game. As for Prairie View, they’re currently 5-15 and coming off a win over Southern U. Grambling managed a spotty 4-12 start this year over their first 16 games. The Tigers would then hit a win streak over Southern, MS Valley State, AR-Pine Bluff, Jackson State and Alcorn State. It’s been a 1-2 run since with losses to Alabama State and Texas Southern.
Matched up against Texas Southern on Saturday, the Tigers had a 31-29 lead by halftime. Grambling would slip in the second on a 34-39 deficit in a 68-65 loss. Cam Christon led the team with 14 bench points and one rebound.
Over on the Prairie View side, they hit the skids at 0-11 to start the season. The Panthers have gotten better on a 5-4 run since then, though. The wins in that time were over AR-Pine Bluff, Alcorn State, Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Southern U.
In the Southern U game on Saturday, the Panthers scored 42 points in each half and were able to hang on for the 84-77 victory. Jeremiah Gambrell led the team with 25 points, and Jawaun Daniels put up 15 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists.
The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in the last five at home and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win. Prairie View is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-1 ATS in the last six road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. Grambling is 4-0 ATS in the last four after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Prairie View here. The Panthers’ 1-3 record in their last four games doesn’t look very good on the surface, but they’ve been playing tight in those matchups. Prairie View has lost each of their last three games by just one point each. They’ve also hit 70 or more points in each of their five wins. If the Panthers can get off to a good start here I think they’ll be okay on a cover.
