Drake vs Evansville 2/16/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Evansville Purple Aces and the Drake Bulldogs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Knapp Center. Evansville is sitting at 6-18 on the year. The Aces lost to Southern Illinois in their last game. As for Drake, they’re 17-9 and took a loss to Bradley in their most recent appearance. Evansville hasn’t been able to win consecutive games yet this year; it’s been a struggle for the Aces so far. It’s been a 1-5 run for Evansville in their last six outings, with losses to Northern Iowa, Missouri State, Bradley, Indiana State and Southern Illinois.

Matched up against Southern Illinois on Saturday, the Aces were outscored 26-36 by halftime. Evansville got better from there but still lost 69-62. Blaise Beauchamp was the top scorer on the team with 19 points, two rebounds and two steals. 

Over on the Drake side, they started out a rocky 3-3 this year but quickly found their bearings. By February 2, the Bulldogs were up to 17-6. They’ve lost three straight to Northern Iowa, Missouri State and Bradley, though. 

In the Bradley game back on Saturday, the Bulldogs were down by just one point by the break. Drake was outscored 32-40 in the second during a 68-59 loss. Tucker DeVries was the lead scorer with 20 points and seven boards. 

The Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 overall. Drake is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. 

Meanwhile, the Aces are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games and 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS win. Evansville is 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Drake here. The Bulldogs haven’t looked great during this three-game losing streak, though. That said, Drake is certainly capable of putting up solid points totals against comparable squads. 

Drake managed a tight 60-59 road win the last time these teams met up. Provided the Bulldogs can bounce back from their recent tepid efforts on offense I think they’ll be okay on a cover. Should be a fun rematch.
