Costa Rica is welcoming Canada to Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in round 12 of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifications. Costa Rica is undefeated in their last 4 games, and they are still very close to that 4th place which means they will go for the win here. Canada is at the top of the table, they are 4 points ahead of the USA and Mexico, and with a point here, they will qualify for the World Cup.
Costa Rica is a solid defensive team with only 7 conceded goals, but their offense is basically non-existent with only 8 scored goals in 11 games. Kaylor Navas is the most known player on Costa Rica’s team, and he will be extremely important in this game. Costa Rica’s defense is what has kept them in the World Cup race, but I’m not sure they can qualify without the offense. There is no player who has scored more than 1 goal for Costa Rica in these qualifications, and that is a problem. Of course, it could happen that Costa Rica will be lucky enough to qualify only because of their good defense, but that would be a miracle in my opinion.
Canada is on an amazing run right now, they have won their last 6 games in a row, and during that streak, they have beaten both Mexico and the USA. With 25 points, Canada is at the top of the table they are the best offensive and defensive team with 19 scored goals and only 5 conceded goals. Canada is also undefeated in these qualifications so far, and it would be amazing to end their 36-year long World Cup drought by getting there from the top spot and staying undefeated. There are a lot of great young players in this Canadian team, but the player they are missing is Alphonso Davies who is coming back from the injury. Canada doesn’t need to force anything in this game, they can focus on the defense, and I think they will, but because Costa Rica has to attack, Canada might get a few chances on the counterattacks.
Canada has beaten Costa Rica at home in these qualifications already, and now it’s time to do it again. Costa Rica can be dangerous, but luckily for Canada, they are not scoring a lot of goals. I’m siding with Canada.
