The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves meet in NL East division action in an MLB matchup from Truist Park on Monday night.
The Philadelphia Phillies will look to build on their 4-3 win over Los Angeles to salvage something from their weekend series. Bryce Harper leads the Phillies with 41 hits including 14 doubles, 9 home runs and 27 RBIs while Nick Castellanos has 40 hits with 10 doubles and 21 RBIs. Kyle Schwarber also has 10 home runs and 22 RBIs as well while Alec Bohm’s posting a .286 batting average so far this season. Zack Wheeler will get the start here and is 2-3 with a 3.49 ERA and 41 strikeouts this season.
The Atlanta Braves will look to bounce back from failing to complete the sweep of their series with the Marlins after a 4-3 loss to Miami on Sunday. Matt Olson has 37 hits with a .242 batting average and a team-high 16 doubles while Marcell Ozuna has 36 hits with 5 doubles, 8 home runs and 20 RBIs. Austin Riley has 35 hits with 9 doubles, 8 home runs and 18 RBIs and Ozzie Albies has 6 home runs and 17 RBIs and Dansby Swanson also has a team-high 19 RBIs of his own as well this season. Ozzie Albies also has a team-high 39 hits and 8 doubles. Tucker Davidson will get the start here and is 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season.
Philadelphia is 5-15 in their last 20 division games and 2-6 in their last 8 games as a favorite while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Atlanta is 22-10 in their last 32 division games and 1-4 in their last 5 series-opening games while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 home games.
I get the reasoning for backing the Braves at home here and while Tucker Davidson has a bloated ERA from one bad start, I’m still not sure how much I really trust him to carry the Braves lineup forward. As much as I’ve ragged on him, we’re getting a solid price with the Phillies and their “staff ace” in Zack Wheeler who has dealt six innings plus of shutout ball in three of his last four starts, including a pair of starts where Wheeler finished seven innings. I’ll side with the Phillies in this one.
