The Washington Nationals and the Cincinnati Reds meet Thursday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park. The Nationals are coming off a series versus the Mets. After losses in the first pair, on Wednesday Washington fell in a shutout. As for Cincinnati, they played the Red Sox in their last series. The Reds won Tuesday, then in the Wednesday game Cincinnati lost by six runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Washington had some trouble with the Mets in the first couple of games, losing 13-5 Monday and 10-0 Tuesday. In the Wednesday finale, the Nationals couldn’t score on six hits in a rough 5-0 loss. Evan Lee gave up two earned on four hits and three walks in 3.2 frames in the start.

Joan Adon will take the mound for the Nationals on Wednesday. This year over 10 starts Adon is 1-8 with a 6.08 ERA. In 47.1 innings he has 50 hits, 32 earned, 29 walks and 38 Ks.

Over on the Reds’ side, they were able to eke out a 2-1 win over Boston on Tuesday. In the Wednesday matchup, Cincinnati coughed up four runs in the fourth during a 7-1 loss. Starter Hunter Greene managed 3.2 innings with four earned on six hits alongside eight Ks.

In Thursday’s game, the Reds are sending out Graham Ashcraft for the starting role. In his two starts so far Ashcraft is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA. In 10.2 frames he has eight hits, two earned, four walks and four Ks.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Nationals here. Adon’s recent outings don’t look so good record-wise: he’s 0-2 in his last three. That said, he’s only got one bad start in there—that came May 23 versus the Dodgers with 4.2 innings, six earned, four walks and seven hits. In the other two games, Adon has 10.2 innings with just one earned on 11 hits and two walks. With a decent performance—and maybe a quality start—from Adon, I think the Nats will have a reasonable shot at a W. Ashcraft should do just fine on the other side, though.
