Newcastle United vs. Manchester City 8/21/22 EPL Soccer Picks, Predictions, Odds

Newcastle United and Manchester City face off on Sunday in an English Premier League showdown at St. James Park. When these two teams faced off on May 8th it was Manchester City that secured the 5-0 victory. 

Manchester City made it clear heading into the season that anything less than a Championship was disappointing, and in the first two games they have proven that they are the team to beat. In the first game, Manchester City beat West Ham United 2-0, and in the last game, they beat Bournemouth 4-0. Against Bournemouth, it was three different goalscorers and an own goal that led to the victory. With Aymeric Laporte out of this match due to injury, Manchester City should call upon Nathan Ake to start. Kevin De Bruyne scored a goal in the last game, and a few more goals in this game doesn’t seem out of the question. 

On the other side of this matchup is Newcastle United, who haven’t dropped a game to start the season. Newcastle started the season with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest and followed that up with a 0-0 draw against Brighton. Callum Wilson was a difference maker last season, and he again showed he is worth the price of admission, scoring a goal in the first game. In that first game against Nottingham Forest, they had 62 percent of the possession and 10 shots on goal. In this game, Newcastle is going to need to try to take possession in this game, and limit the scoring chances for Manchester City. They know they will be on the back foot, they just need to try to limit how often Manchester City gets close in the box. 

This will probably be a win for Manchester City, but I do expect Newcastle United to play the best defense of the season against them, and really limit their chances. I don’t think there is a ton of value on either side, but this is going to be a lower-scoring game. Back the under to cash here.
