Los Angeles posted three runs in the sixth inning of the Tuesday opener and held on for a 5-2 win. On Wednesday the Angels were out-hit 10-5 in a 7-2 defeat. Starter Tucker Davidson put up 5.0 innings with three earned on five hits alongside three strikeouts.
As starter for the Thursday game, it’ll be LA’s Michael Lorenzen. In his 15 starts so far Lorenzen is 7-6 with a 4.74 ERA. Over 81.2 innings total he has 43 earned on 73 hits and 36 walks with 63 strikeouts.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they were out-hit 13-5 in the Tuesday game despite an early lead. On Thursday, Texas scored three runs in the eighth inning to complete the comeback win. Dane Dunning put up 5.0 frames in the start with two earned, three hits and a walk.
Martin Perez will take the mound for the Rangers on Thursday. Over 29 starts this year Perez is 12-6 with a 2.84 ERA. In 177.1 innings total he has 56 earned on 163 hits and 58 walks with 159 Ks.
The Angels are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 0-5 in their last five Thursday games. The under is 7-2 in LA’s last nine Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 20-43 in their last 63 in game three of a series and 5-17 in their last 22 overall. The over is 5-2 in Texas’ last seven Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Texas. Perez is on a pretty decent run right now. He’s 2-1 in his last three games, giving up five earned in 18.1 combined innings on 21 hits and four walks during that stretch. As for Lorenzen, he’s posted four earned in 10.2 innings on seven hits and six walks during his last pair. If Perez can keep it going, this should be a golden opportunity for the Rangers to post a victory.
