Robert Morris kicked off the year with a close 22-20 loss versus Dayton. The Colonials continued to struggle from there, falling to Miami-OH 31-14, East Tennessee State 45-3, Delaware State 14-9, Gardner-Webb 48-0 and Campbell 41-10.
In the NC A&T game, the Colonials were down 30-0 by halftime. Robert Morris got better after the break but still lost in a rough 38-14 outcome. QB Anthony Chiccitt finished with 70 yards and a TD, while Alijah Jackson rushed 23 times for 111 yards.
Over on the App State side, they took a 63-61 loss to North Carolina in their opener, then beat Texas A&M 17-14. The Mountaineers went 2-2 over the next quartet with losses to James Madison and Texas State alongside victories versus Troy and the Citadel.
In the Georgia State game, the Mountaineers were down 14-7 at halftime. Appalachian State stormed back with a 35-3 advantage in the second half and a 42-17 win. QB Chase Brice posted just 62 pass yards, while Camerun Peoples did most of the work on 168 yards and two scores rushing.
PICK: I’m probably going to stay with Appalachian State. Despite the slow start in a run-heavy game (just 135 combined pass yards between both teams), the Mountaineers did a solid job against Georgia State back on Wednesday. App State posted a whopping 392 rush yards with 25 first downs and 34:44 in time of possession. The defense contributed to the blowout victory with four turnovers as well.
As for Robert Morris, they’re coming off a pretty rough game against North Carolina A&T. The Colonials have scored 14 points or fewer in each of their last six games, and I can’t see them doing very well here either.
