William & Mary opened up their year versus Navy. The Tribe had only a two-point deficit at halftime but scored just 22 points from there in a 74-59 loss. Noah Coller led the way on 17 points and eight rebounds in 35 minutes.
In game two versus Mid-Atlantic Christian University, William & Mary had a much easier time. The Tribe had a 54-27 lead after one half and rolled to the 116-40 win. Miguel Ayesa topped the team on 23 points, and Jake Milkereit added 21 points.
Over on the Virginia Tech side, it’s been smooth sailing through two games so far. The Hokies opened up against Delaware State and didn’t have much trouble in a 95-57 blowout win. Top scorer Grant Basile doubled on 30 points and 10 boards.
In their second outing of the year against Lehigh, Virginia Tech jumped out to a 43-25 halftime lead. The Hokies cruised in a 78-52 result. Sean Pedulla was the high man on 20 points, and Justyn Mutts doubled with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tribe are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games and the under is 9-4-1 in their last 14 overall. Virginia Tech is 5-1 ATS in the last six overall and 7-2 ATS in the last nine at home.
PICK: I’m going to go with Virginia Tech. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Hokies have been pretty impressive through two games so far—though it’s fair to say that both matchups have been easy. Virginia Tech shot 52.5 percent from the field in the Lehigh game, collecting 36 rebounds and 15 team assists along the way. As for William & Mary, they should get a lift from their blowout win Thursday but Virginia Tech will be the toughest opponent so far—by a significant margin. I don’t see the Tribe keeping pace for long in this one.
