The UMKC Roos and the Kansas State Wildcats meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Bramlage Coliseum. UMKC is 1-3 so far this year following a win over Calvary in their last outing. As for Kansas State, they’re 2-0 on the season and coming off a win versus California. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UMKC stabled out of the gate this year, losing their first game versus Lincoln MO 59-56. The next two matchups were tough, and the Roos lost those as well. UMKC fell 74-63 to LSU and 86-48 in game three versus Illinois.
The Roos finally got into the win column with a matchup versus Calvary on Monday. UMKC was up 68-21 by the break and rolled to a 113-54 outcome. RayQuawndis Mitchell led the way with 18 points, and Allen David Mukeba doubled on 14 points and 11 boards.
Over on the Kansas State side, their first game of the year versus Texas-Rio Grande Valley went well. The Wildcats were up 52-26 at halftime and scored 41 more points in a 93-59 win. Nae’Qwan Tomlin and Markquis Nowell each notched 14 points to lead the team.
Game two versus California was quite a bit closer but still a victory for the Wildcats. Kansas State managed 36 points in the first half and hung on for the win 63-54. Keyontae Johnson was tops with 16 points and nine rebounds with one assist.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Kansas State. The Wildcats have turned in two solid performances so far—outside of a limp second half versus California. The Wildcats shot a tepid 36.8 percent from the field in that one. Still, Kansas State won thanks to a competitive performance on the boards 35-35, 16-of-18 made free throws and 22 Golden Bears turnovers. The Wildcats have quite a bit more talent on the roster than UMKC, and Kansas State should cover here easily if they play well.
