Tarleton State kicked off their season with a matchup versus Arizona State. The Texans were within 32-29 by halftime but ultimately couldn’t get any closer in a 62-59 loss. Jakorie Smith led the way on 16 points and seven rebounds.
In game two versus Kansas Christian College, the Texans managed their first win of the season. Tarleton State was up nine by halftime and scored 56 points from there in a 95-49 blowout. Tydan Archibald scored 15 points to lead the team.
Over on the Belmont side, they began their year with a game versus Ohio. The Bruins nearly blew a seven-point halftime lead but escaped with a 70-69 win. Game two versus Furman didn’t go as well; Belmont lost 89-74.
The Bruins played another close game on Monday versus Lipscomb. Belmont was down 37-34 by the break and ultimately came up with a 77-75 loss. Ben Sheppard led the way on 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Belmont.
The Texans are 3-1-1 ATS in the last five Friday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five after a straight-up win. The under is 5-0 in Tarleton’s last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Tarleton State. The Texans took care of business in their last outing versus Kansas Christian College, and they gave Arizona State a run for their proverbial money in the opener. It’s a small sample size, but if Tarleton can get going here I think they can keep pace. As for Belmont, it’s been a shaky three games so far with some ups and downs. The Bruins are going to need a nice bounce-back effort here if they want to move on from the last couple of losses.
