Iowa vs Maryland 1/15/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Maryland Terrapins and the Iowa Hawkeyes meet Sunday in college basketball action from Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Maryland is 11-5 overall this year. The Terrapins beat Ohio State in their last game. Maryland went 9-3 over their first 12 outings. The Terrapins lost to Wisconsin, Tennessee and UCLA in that time. Maryland is 2-2 in their last four outings with wins versus UMBC and Ohio State alongside losses to Michigan and Rutgers. 

In the Ohio State game last weekend, the Terrapins were down 39-34 at the break. Maryland stormed back with a 46-34 second-half run and won it 80-73. Jahmir Young went off for 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team. 

Over on the Iowa side, they were 8-4 after 12 games with losses to TCU, Duke, Wisconsin and Eastern Illinois. The Hawkeyes would then lose to Nebraska and Penn State before wins versus Indiana, Rutgers and Michigan. 

Back on Thursday matched up against Michigan, the Hawkeyes scored 40 points in the first half, 39 more in the second and 14 in overtime during a 93-84 victory. Kris Murray scored 27 points, and Payton Sandfort posted 26 points. 

PICK: I’m going to try Iowa here. The Hawkeyes are coming off a solid win over Michigan in their last outing, shooting 45.1 percent from the field with 40 rebounds, 18 assists and just six turnovers. Iowa has scored 76 or more points in four straight games, going 3-1 in that stretch. As for Maryland, they’ve been a mixed bag over their last eight games—a 3-5 run with several tough matchups. Maryland was at 60 points or fewer in five of those games however, so if they don’t get off to a good start I can see Iowa powering out a cover in this one. Should be a fun game to watch regardless, though.
