Texas A&M-CC Islanders

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi put up a 21-10 run across the regular season. The Islanders beat Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce to finish off the schedule, then took out McNeese State and Northwestern State in the Southland Tournament.

In the First Four matchup on Tuesday versus Southeast Missouri State, the Islanders took a 33-27 edge into the second half. Texas A&M-CC finished on a 44-42 deficit from there in a 75-71 victory. Leading the team was Jalen Jackson on 22 points and six rebounds.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Over on the Alabama side, they managed a 26-5 run through the regular season. The Tide finished the year off on a 4-1 run, taking a loss to Texas A&M in the final game. Alabama would then beat Mississippi State 72-49 and Missouri 72-61 in the SEC Tournament.

In the championship matchup of the conference tourney versus Texas A&M, Alabama went into halftime with a 34-23 edge. The Tide kept it rolling with 48 more points from there and won the game easily 82-63. Brandon Miller (23 points; 12 rebounds) and Charles Bediako (12 points; 13 rebounds) each doubled up.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m probably going to stay with the Islanders in this one. The Tide are playing great basketball right now, and they didn’t have much trouble getting through the SEC Tournament. Alabama is a nice 7-1 in their last eight outings, scoring 72 or more points in each victory. As for Texas A&M-CC, they shot a tepid 38.6 from the floor with 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) from 3-point range in their win over Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday. The Islanders out-rebounded the Redhawks 45-30 however, and they’ve now won five straight games. If Texas A&M-CC can keep the energy up in this one, I think they’ve got a great shot at keeping pace.
